Dr. Dianat brings a unique perspective to endodontics, combining hands-on clinical experience with ongoing research and teaching. For him, these three roles work together: what he learns in the lab improves what happens in the treatment room, and what he teaches keeps him connected to the latest developments in the field.

The Path to Specialization

During dental school, Dr. Dianat found himself drawn to the challenge of saving teeth that might otherwise be lost. This led him to the University of Maryland, where he completed his endodontic residency and earned a Master’s degree in Dental Science. His clinical work during residency was recognized with the Tony Michael Ponti Memorial Award, given each year to one graduating senior for excellence in endodontics.
But training was just the beginning. Over the years, Dr. Dianat noticed that some commonly accepted techniques weren’t as effective as they could be. Rather than simply work around these limitations, he began researching and publishing, contributing to the ongoing conversation about how endodontics can continue to improve.

Beyond the Operating Microscope

With over 80 peer-reviewed publications and more than 2,500 citations in scientific literature, Dr. Dianat stays actively involved in advancing the field. His research covers a range of topics that directly affect patient care—from developing approaches for calcified canals to improving anesthesia protocols for difficult-to-numb teeth, optimizing how we clean root canal systems, exploring regenerative techniques, and investigating how artificial intelligence might help with diagnosis and treatment planning.

What does this mean for you? When you’re treated by Dr. Dianat, your care reflects not just years of experience, but also current research published in journals like the International Endodontic Journal and Journal of Endodontics.

Teaching and Learning

Dr. Dianat has taught endodontics for many years at SBMU and he currently holds a faculty
position at the University of Maryland. Teaching has an unexpected benefit: it keeps him sharp.
Explaining why a technique works forces a deeper understanding than simply performing it.
Every protocol needs to be evidence-based, every approach defensible.

As a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics—a certification held by less than 25% of
endodontists—Dr. Dianat has demonstrated expertise through rigorous examination and case
presentation, a commitment that goes beyond standard licensing requirements.

Innovation in Practice

Dr. Dianat holds two United States patents for innovations
(US-12336876-B2, 2025 and US-20240398529-A1, 2024).

What Matters Most

For all the research and teaching, Dr. Dianat finds the most satisfaction in something simpler: helping someone get out of pain and keep their natural tooth. He personally reviews every case before treatment, during the procedure, and at follow-up. He’s known for calling patients the evening after treatment to check on their recovery—a habit he developed during residency and has never given up.

“Research and teaching make me a better clinician,” Dr. Dianat explains, “but it’s the person in my chair who matters most. Every published paper, every lecture, every new technique ultimately serves one purpose: giving that patient the best possible outcome.”

Outside the Office

When not treating patients, teaching, or researching, Dr. Dianat prioritizes time with family.

Dr. Fay Mansouri, DDS
Endodontist | NightLase Provider

Clinical Expertise

Dr. Mansouri brings a patient-first philosophy to endodontics, believing that exceptional clinical care begins with exceptional communication. She takes time to ensure patients understand their condition, their options, and the reasoning behind her recommendations, often drawing diagrams and showing radiographs until anxiety is replaced with understanding.

Caring for Anxious Patients

Many patients arrive at an endodontist’s office already nervous, sometimes after putting off care
for months or even years. Dr. Mansouri has developed a reputation for helping these patients
feel at ease. Her approach combines thorough communication before treatment with comfort
techniques refined over years of practice. The result? Patients often describe their root canal
experience with Dr. Mansouri as more comfortable than routine fillings they’ve had elsewhere.

This doesn’t happen by accident. It comes from genuine care, technical skill, and the patience to
meet each person where they are.

Working with Your Dentist

Dr. Mansouri maintains close communication with referring dentists, providing detailed reports after each procedure and remaining available for consultation on complex cases. This collaborative approach ensures continuity of care—your dentist stays informed, and your treatment plan stays coordinated.

A Patient-Centered Philosophy

For Dr. Mansouri, technical excellence and compassionate care aren’t separate goals—they’re inseparable. The precision required for successful endodontic treatment matters, but so does the experience of the person receiving it. Both deserve full attention.
