How Does Nightlase Work?

Not to mention the better sleep for your partner

Our First Patients Were Our Family and Friends

Before offering this treatment to any of our patients, we did it for ourselves. Practically everyone in our family and friends, including the doctor’s spouse, who had snoring issues, got the treatment first and we only started offering it to our patients after we saw the great improvement in their sleep quality and the comfort of their partners.

What's the Catch?

You may ask yourself, if Nightlase is such a great treatment, why haven’t I heard of it before? Why other doctors have not recommended it to me? Why everyone is not doing this instead of all these other complicated treatments? These are great questions.

Here are some of the main concerns patients have shared with us:

1. Nightlase is a rather new treatment approach. Not everyone, including doctors, know about it, or have experience performing it. That’s why most doctors may rely on more traditional treatments.

2. Nightlase is a procedure. Most Sleep Specialists are not surgeons and not comfortable with performing a procedure, especially in the mouth. Most surgeons on the other hand, focus their laser treatment expertise on cosmetic procedures. There are very few doctors that have the combination of sleep specialty along with performing treatment in area of mouth and tongue. That is why Dr. Fay’s specialty in Endodontics and micro-surgery along with sleep studies makes her the perfect doctor to offer this treatment.

3. Snoring treatment by non-surgical laser treatment is not for everyone. The treatment only works if you are a candidate. That is why we offer a Special consultation to make sure you can expect improvement before committing to the treatment.

4. Offering Nightlase requires a big investment on doctor’s behalf both financially, but, more importantly, in time spent on courses, education, training and preparing the office and staff. Not every practice is willing to invest in the latest technology and treatment options. Many of sleep specialists are very busy and have been offering the same treatments for years and are not willing to learn a new skill or invest in new equipment.

5. While Nightlase treatment is very affordable, it does cost more than over-the-counter appliances you may find in drugstores. We offer options that are specifically designed to give you great solutions to address that potential concern. Nightlase costs much less than many expect.

There may be other reasons why you have not heard about this treatment and that is why part of the time we spend with you at your Special consultation is to explain those reasons. You will have the chance to ask questions and get comfortable with potential solutions without any obligation or commitment in advance.

Am I a Candidate?

While NightLase treatment for snoring can be an effective solution for many people. It works best for snoring that is caused by natural aging and narrowing of the airways. There are certain individuals who may not be good candidates for this treatment. These include:

  • People with severe sleep apnea: NightLase is typically recommended for individuals with mild to moderate sleep apnea or snoring issues. If you have severe sleep apnea, NightLase may not provide sufficient relief and other treatments, such as CPAP therapy, may be necessary.

  • Smokers and heavy drinkers: Smoking and heavy drinking can contribute to inflammation and narrowing of the airways, which can worsen snoring and sleep apnea. These lifestyle factors may reduce the effectiveness of NightLase treatment.

  • People taking muscle relaxants or sedatives: NightLase may not be effective for those who snore due to taking medications like muscle relaxants, as these drugs can relax the throat muscles and contribute to snoring.

  • Individuals with a history of severe sleep-related breathing disorders: If you have a history of sleep-related breathing disorders, such as severe sleep apnea or upper airway resistance syndrome, NightLase treatment may not be suitable for you.

  • People with certain medical conditions: NightLase may not be recommended for individuals with certain medical conditions, such as severe asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or other respiratory problems.

WHST OUR PATINETS SAY

ALEC J.

I was not sure what to expect. When I read about the laser treatment for snoring, I thought it seems to be too good to be true. But I still thought. Why not? I tried everything, let’s try this too. So far I have had two treatments and I am amazed that it has made such a big difference.

Besides the feedback, I get from my significant other, I just feel less tired in the morning. It seems like it has just made my breathing better. I am excited about the last treatment and feel it was a great decision to give this a try.

The office is pretty nice and clean. The procedure was not like dental work. It just felt more like a facial but with no pain. You sit on the chair and they point something inside your mouth at your throat and tongue.

I started feeling better in the mornings after the second treatment. The complaints from those who can hear my snoring has gone away. It has been a great experience overall. If you snore, it just does not make sense to suffer when a treatment this simple is out there. I highly Irvine Endodontics.

CIDNEY S.

I just turned 50 and it just felt embarrassing that I already snore to a point that my husband was constantly complaining. I keep denying it until he recorded it! Ouch! That was terrible.

Then I heard about sleep apnea and all the different treatments available for snoring. It ranged from hideous devices to late-night TV products. Most just seemed non-practical. And meds… who wants to takes meds for the rest of her life.

While researching online for other options I came across Dr. Mansouri’s website and the Nightlase treatment. I decided to give it a try. It seemed easy enough and I felt it’s worth the risk. The treatment was easy and literally no pain or anything. Took around 20 minutes and I just could hear some beeps and felt warm where she was pointing the instrument at.

But the best part was the smile on my husband face the next day! He was so happy he could not shut up about it! haha… I just feel the airway is larger and I can breathe easier. I am not sure how this worked so fast, but, they told me that it will continue working and I need to repeat it 2-3 times within a couple of months for the long term effect. I am excited to finish it and hopefully stop hearing about my snoring!

What Happens During the Consultation

During your short visit, we will find the main cause of your snoring after a quick exam, and conversation with you. We then determine if the Nightlase procedure is a helpful solution in your specific case. If the answer is a yes, we will explain the process.

There is no “sales” pitch, or pressure on you to pursue a treatment. We will share the information, and you will make a decision when you are ready.

FAQ

You will experience the benefit of the treatment usually after the first couple of sessions. Some patients report better sleep and shallower snoring even after the first treatment. Following our examination we will be able to give you a more accurate explanation of what to expect.

For most patients the cost is around a few hundred dollars per session. The number of sessions depend on the severity of obstruction, but, often starts at three sessions. Our free consultation is the best opportunity to learn about the exact cost for your individual treatment. The exam is free of charge and you will be able to learn about the treatment, what to expect and how it works in details.

No! The treatment includes directing a light laser beam at different areas of your tongue and palate. What you feel is similar to how you feel if your hand is close to a lamp. Kind of warmth in the spot the laser beam is directed at. Imagine your mouth gets beams of light from a flash light and you feel the heat of the light. There is no burning or cut.

In the past laser is used to cut the tissue and create a scar tissue to tighten the muscles. This is NOT that. The beam of light simply stimulates growth of new, younger tissue. No scar is generated. There are no bleeding or pain or discomfort during or after wards either.

We have cooling sprays and numbing sprays if needed, but, most patients don’t feel any discomfort that requires even those sprays. There is no scenarios in which you will need an injection. There is no water, or sound. It is not like dental work. No noise, or suction or other bulky equipment that is used for a regular dental work is needed.

We hear this often. Patients tell us, this seems too good to be true. It just sounds too simple.

The fact is that even though the result seems easy to achieve, the process and innovation behind it are not simple. Nightlase is the result of years of research and clinical studies.

Laser has been used for skin rejuvenation for years. We know that laser removes old skin and that induces a recreation of new skin after treatment.

The snoring treatment is basically the same thing, but, the innovation is that the tissue that is hit is not on the surface but deeper and underneath the skin. Nightlase scientists have found a way to hit the tissue inside without damaging the skin that covers it.

But, the process is very similar to skin resurfacing that we know works. What happens to the tissue is also very similar to what you can do with laser skin rejuvenation.

New tissue replaces the old one, and naturally it is young, healthy, tighter and more flexible. Soft and loose fibers that cause the snoring are now replaced with young health tissue that functions like when you were younger and didn’t snore.
